This is Gavlyn. Gavlyn is a rapper from L.A., rapping seriously since 2006. Why is she something new then? Her debut album From the Art just dropped at the end of last year and she still hasn’t really broken on this side of the pond. She’s inspired by old school 70s funk and spoken word, with her tune below sampling little known hit Have A Little Mercy by 60s/70s Detroit soul group The Fantastic Four. With lyrics that are almost self-depracating in places (“I’m not trying to be the lyrical champion, just your ordinary MC”), there’s something really attractive about this girl’s no-bullshit attitude.
