New Shizzle

Here are some new tunes I’ve been loving lately. If you haven’t heard these then you need to get all over them like a powerful moss.

I heard this on Jools Holland a few weeks back and didn’t think much of it. Such a grower though, fair dews John Grant. Can anyone spot where the video was shot, it’s only bloody Dalston. I think I can see my flat.

These guys came to my attention through MØ, who they have been supporting on tour. A lot of buzz about these guys and much of it comes down to this tune Hurricane. The video is pretty fascinating too, like a pop-culture orgy.

Brixton hip hop lads Granville Sessions are back with this banger Forward, featuring Jester Jacobs and Oliver Sudden. Another one to check out from these guys is Pubsteppin.

AlunaGeorge were one that I rated on the BBC Sound of 2013 list at the beginning of the year, and they thankfully are still knocking out some good tunes. Though much more pop than previous single Your Drums, Your Love this one has got something. A really interesting duo all-round, and there’s a wolf in the video!

So Blondie are back! Wasn’t expecting that, and generally I am not a fan of reforming bands or bands not knowing when to call it a day (U2 anyone?). Though, in fairness, Blondie seem to be doing it right. They’ve brought The Gossip’s Beth Ditto in for some guest vocals on this electo-pop gem. It’s from forthcoming Blondie album Ghosts of Download, good title.

I’ve been listening to hours of BBC Radio 1Xtra for a recent job lately and in between rants by some incredibly annoying gobshite called Charlie Sloth there is occasionally some good music. When this one by Stylo G kicks in at 1:16 you can’t help but wanna raise your right hand in the air.

Lastly, the latest Atoms for Peace video gives us something I never thought I would see – a dancing Thom Yorke. I grew up with Radiohead’s The Bends and OK Computer as essential albums of my teenage years, it’s good to see the guy progressing all the time. Great tune, and at least he’s not getting boring in his advancing age.
